Victoria's Favorite Summer Memory
Summer didn't start as I thought it would. My Papa died suddenly. It affected my entire family. The worst part was that my aunt planned her wedding for this summer in Puerto Rico. It was to be a family trip like never before. Everyone was going! We were devastated. How could we find happiness so soon after Papa passed? Somehow we managed to pull together. When we got to our destination, it felt like a different world. The sunshine, palm trees, the sound of the ocean; it all helped us overcome the disappointment that Papa was gone. Once the family got settled, the sadness blew away with the ocean breeze. My cousins and I spent every moment playing in the sun. As the wedding date got closer, we started to worry. Rain now threatened to dampen our spirits. What if the wedding couldn't be on the beach? Finally the day of the wedding came. When I woke up, it was raining again. Thankfully, the sky cleared up midday. We prayed that the sun would stay out. Soon it was time for the wedding. It was perfect. We knew Papa was there in spirit. This vacation was exactly what we needed to move forward.
