Daniel's Favorite Summer Memory
Have you ever been to a fair and saw a cow? To you it might be the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen other than the fried dough stand. Well I own some of those cows you see at the fair. Today I will tell you about my favorite day at Westport Fair, show day.
The show is about to start. I get dressed in my show whites and lead my cow “Joy” into the ring for fitting class. Fitting is judged on how clean and fit your cow is. There are 5 cows is my class but I am still confident I can win. We walk around and the judge puts my brother Trevor in first place. I am disappointed and angry at the same time. Then he placed Evan in second, now I am even more mad. Kenny got third, Aaron fourth. So then the judge looked at me and my cow for several moments and placed me second pushing the others back a place. Phew! I feel better. The judge explained our placings. Trevor took first because my cow’s hooves were too long.
The next day I trimmed the hooves and won Champion Fitter at Barnstable Fair.

Mr. Clapp- Your story was a thrill to read. I enjoyed your heartfelt emotions along with your good sportsmanship described in your story. Additionally, your maturity is seen in "listening to feedback" from the judge. By doing so, you came out a champion. This is a very important lesson in life. While sometimes you don't always want to hear stuff, if you listen carefully, you can move from being Good to GREAT! Congratulations. You must be very proud of yourself. Sincerely, Kristin Ryan
